“Let me get philosophical for a minute. In a human world, life is made interesting by serendipity,” Yellin told me. “The more complexity you add to a machine world, you’re adding serendipity that you couldn’t imagine. Perry Mason is going to happen. These ghosts in the machine are always going to be a by-product of the complexity. And sometimes we call it a bug and sometimes we call it a feature.”

Caffeinated Links: Trends of the Action Genre, Marvel and Wonder Woman
Flavorwire on the three films this year that took a surprising approach to the “action” genre – “Captain Phillips, Dr. Stone, and Our Man are neither the gun-slinging robots nor the impenetrable, untouchable, indestructible heroes that too much of modern cinema idolizes. They’re people, recognizable and relatable, and though their struggles may be extraordinary, they respond to them as we might. And these three films, traditional “action movies” or no, inject into the genre what was missing as those computer-generated buildings full of computer-generated people collapsed across multiplexes all summer: a much-needed dose of humanity.” RT
Absolutely superb article from Darren Franich at EW on the casting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.
“We basically know what to expect from the Marvel movies at this point. Rigid professionalism. Witty banter. Assembly-line visual style. Unchallenging narratives. Cameos. But what the hell is this Man of Steel sequel, that has 40-something Oscar-winning Batman and man-candy emo Superman and heroin-chic B-movie-star Wonder Woman and football and rumored titles that all sound like early ’90s erotic thrillers? It sounds unlikely. That’s not a bad thing. ” RT

How And Where To Download Asian Dramas
Note: most of this was adapted from my post at an earlier blog
Watch dramas online:
Download:
For downloading, there are two options as far as subtitles go: hardsubs or softsubs
1)Hardsubs and softsubs:
soft subs – soft subs are simply subtitles which come as a separate file and aren’t directly attached to the video file, so you need to download them separately- they’re usually titled/in the form of “.srt”
hard subs – subtitles which come with the video and don’t have to be downloaded separately – ie if you see “episodes 1-10 hardsubbed” in means that the episodes are already subbed and all you have to is download the videos
Hardsubs are nicer in general as you only have to download one file, but they take much longer to come out and most people end up using softsubs for the most part as episodes get released with softsubs by fansubbing groups much much faster than with hardsubs. The good thing about soft subs, however, is that they’re very small files; they usually download in seconds. Figuring out how to sync them with your video file/make sure they show up on your screen can get a bit trickier, but it’s really not that hard…
Kamenashi Kazuya Profile
*Post adapted from an original Livejournal post
Kamenashi Kazuya, better known as Kame, is a Japanese actor, singer and TV host. He is one of the most widely known, admired, and successful Japanese performers of his day.
Overview:
Kame is a member (the “K”, specifically) of uber-popular boyband KAT-TUN. He is also a drama actor whose has acted in 9 dramas and been the lead in 8 of them (not including cameos and specials and one-episode appearances). He also works as a talkshow host, sports broadcaster, and does oodles of the promotional stuff that comes with being one of Japan’s most well-known stars.
Alone in Love – Lee Seung Gi ft. Park Shin Hye
Music video featuring two of Korea’s most popular young actors. I’d love to see a drama with these two.
Caffeinated Links: A Princess Grifter, Peter Jackson To Direct Doctor Who? and Firefly Follow-Up
“The thing I realized with Amy is, she can make any dialogue you write sound unwritten,” Mr. Jonze added. “She just has a way of internalizing it. She’s such a thinker, and you can see her thinking her way through all of that until it’s all coming from within her.” Amy Adams, despite turning in breathtakingly precise performances on a constant basis, flies quietly under the radar of most mainstream media insofar as her personal life, so this relatively rare interview with NYT makes for a good read. The Lululemon founder made a series of sexist comments about the company’s clothing line not being made for all size shapes – and has since resigned in the (well-deserved) firestorm that followed. I understand that Lululemon is a luxury brand – but what it is basically selling with the statement that its clothese only fit certain body types is the idea that, once again, only one specific body type is to be desired by the privileged and the fit. There’s a lot – and I do mean a lot – of delicious speculation and theories floating around about the Doctor Who Christmas episode, mostly based on clues in posters that have been released, so join the cloud of obsessive geekdom and dive in, aye? BBC and Radiotimes
And on that note, what if Peter Jackson directed an episode of Doctor Who? All – ALL that would be remaining after that to clinch the sovereign trinity of sci-fi Awesomedom after Gaiman and Jackson would be Joss Whedon. RT
NPR convincingly pulls apart the criticism of the casting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and utterly delights me with the deep nerd-dom knowledge shown – though then I was equally disappointed to see this article was being written by a man –
“Diana, on the other hand, is creature of myth and fantasy. Her physical strength is an important aspect of her character, but it is not a function of her lean body mass. Whether or not Gadot will make an interesting, let alone convincing, Wonder Woman has nothing to do with the size of her biceps.
No, Wonder Woman is a presence, a figure of mingled strength and compassion. There’s one and only one thing that Gadot needs to project, the moment she comes on-screen:
“I got this.” RT
And finally,we don’t just get a Veronica Mars movie, y’all – we also get a comic book follow-up to Firefly/Serenity. Age of the geek, baby. Writer Zack Whedon and artist Georges Jeanty have teamed up to create a six-part comics miniseries titled Serenity: Leaves on the Wind. The series picks up nine months post-Serenity with the crew still on the lam, including a very pregnant Zoe. RT
